Aspen is defined by its splendid mountains, numerous outdoor activities and vigorous history. The city was originally founded as a silver mining camp and has now become one of the largest year-around resort. The city received its name from the wealth of aspen trees in the area. According to the 2005 census, the estimated population for Aspen was 5,804.

Near to the Rio Grande Park, lies a true sanctuary dedicated to the well known artist John Denver. In the John Denver Sanctuary there are grassy mounds and huge granite rocks. Carved in the granite rock are some of the lyrics of Denver’s best-loved songs. Even if you are not a fan of John Denver the park offers beautiful scenic views and has an incredible serenity ambiance.
