Clearwater is the smallest of the three principal cities in the Tampa Bay Area. According to the 2005 census, the city's population is 108,687. To many it is considered a great beach city due to its clean beaches, on-site amenities, and great emphasis on wildlife.USATODAY.com readers have ranked Clearwater Beach in the Top 10 List of Best Beaches from Maine to Hawaii.
Clearwater is hot during summer when temperatures tend to be in the 80's. August is considered to be the hottest month of the year with high temperatures in the low 90’s. January is the coldest month of the year with temperatures averaging in the low 50’s. Summer months tend to be wetter than winter months. The city overall, receives an average of 52 inches of rain a year.
The Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater is considered one of the top five concert halls in the United States. It comfortably seats 2,180 in its hall. The venue is a main attraction with over 350,000 adult and audience members visiting a year. The venue hosts a variety of performing arts ranging from classical music to dance. There are also a several Broadway musicals and pop stars that have performed in the venue.
Clearwater Beach is rated the number one beach in the Gulf region. It has several beach activities available for all ages. One of the fun attractions is Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise where children and adults can experience the open sea with fun and laughter. The cruise offers treasure hunts, face painting, water gun games, dancing, and story time.
Clearwater has 35 hotels listed in the iStayGreen directory of which 2 are listed as environmentally friendly lodging. Currently 1 hotel has completed the online Environmental Audit and earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating while the other 1 properties are purported to be "Green" but have not yet shared their eco-initiatives with iStayGreen.org.
In Clearwater there are 33 properties where the environmentally friendliness is unknown and they have not yet verified their sustainability efforts with iStayGreen.org. In the state of Florida there is a total of 2827 lodging properties listed in the iStayGreen.org directory of which 323 are represented as eco-friendly. Currently there are 162 lodging properties that have earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating. Included in the properties working toward a more sustainable travel future are Clearwater hotels, Clearwater resorts, Clearwater bed & breakfasts, and Clearwater extended stay accommodations.
