Durham North Carolina - the "City of Medicine"

The city of Durham is located between the Great Smoky Mountains and the beaches of the Atlantic. It is the fifth largest city in North Carolina. Due to the cities major medicine industry, the city is also known as the “City of Medicine”. According to the 2007 census, the population for the city was of 217,847. The city welcomes more than 5.46 million passing visitors each year.

Durham has warm summers. The warmest month of the year is July with average temperatures in the high 80’s. On average there are about 220 sunny days per year. January is considered to be the coolest month of the year with temperatures in the high 20’s. The annual precipitation at Durham is 48.04 inches with the month of March receiving the most rainfall.

A Colorful Garden and a Life Museum in Durham, NC

One of the most visited sites in the city of Durham is the Sarah P. Duke Gardens. The gardens are a memorial to the late wife of the late Benjamin N. Duke, one of the Duke University’s benefactors. The gardens are approximately 55 acres of landscaped and wooden areas. The gardens are nestled at Duke University. The gardens are located into four main parts, the H.L Blomquist Garden of Native Plants, the Culberson Asiatic Arboretum, the Page White Garden, and the Historic Core. It is recognized as one of the premier public gardens in the nation.

A great family fun activity would be to visit the Museum of Life and Science in Durham. The museum sits on 80 acres of land is filled with several attractions. Some of the main attractions and exhibits include the Farmyard, Butterfly House, Farmyard, Train, Grayson's Cafe, Explore the Wild nature park, Catch the Wind, and new exhibits that are currently under construction. The museum is widely known for featuring an assortment of concrete exhibits to illustrate the concepts if natural science.
