Sedona was named after Sedona Miller Schnebly, the wife of the city's first postmaster and is located in the northern Verde Valley region of Arizona. The stunning arrays of red sandstone formations, known as The Red Rocks, create a breathtaking backdrop for the city. According to the 2000 Census Bureau, about 11,220 people call Sedona “home”.
Sedona is a city that is strongly influenced by The Red Rocks which in essence create a magnificent scene for many who pursuit the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails. Sedona has also made its debut on the big screen by providing the landscape for films such as Broken Arrow starring James Steward.
Guest visiting Sedona AZ will find that the city experiences four mild seasons marked by abundant sunshine and clean air. When visiting in the winter, mornings can be cold, with temperatures in the low of 20s. During the summer, water is highly recommended since temperatures can rise to a high 90s.
You’ll want to make sure to visit the second most popular tourist destination in Arizona, Oak Creek Canyon. The canyon offers many recreational actives such as swimming and fishing. Another great activity for the area would be hiking the many trails that lead into side canyons or up to the rim of the canyon. Oak Creek Canyon has been described as one of America's Top 10 scenic drives.

In Sedona there are 21 properties where the environmentally friendliness is unknown and they have not yet verified their sustainability efforts with iStayGreen.org. In the state of Arizona there is a total of 798 lodging properties listed in the iStayGreen.org directory of which 77 are represented as eco-friendly. Currently there are 63 lodging properties that have earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating. Included in the properties working toward a more sustainable travel future are Sedona hotels, Sedona resorts, Sedona bed & breakfasts, and Sedona extended stay accommodations.
