The city of Tucson is located 118 miles southeast of Phoenix. The city is the second largest city in the State of Arizona and is considered to be the 32nd largest city in the United States. It is also home to the University of Arizona. The city is also referred to as "The Old Pueblo". According to the 2006 census, the city is estimated to have a population of 525,529.

The city of Tucson is considered to have an arid climate. Winters are fairly mild and summers are very warm. The city is typically known for its dry weather. The city has an average of 284 sunny days a year. July is considered to be the warmest month of the year with temperatures in the high 100’s. During the winter, temperatures are in the low 30’s and January is considered the coolest month of the year.

The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is one of the most premier gem shows in the world. The show takes place annually and is held at different locations. There are about 40 to 49 different display locations for the show. The show is open to the public and much of its presentations are for sale. The gem show brings over 110 million dollars to the local Tucson economy.

One of the best ways to explore the sonorant desert would be to visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The museum has combined a zoo, botanical garden, and museum to create a real desert experience for visitors. The main focus of the museum is to bring educational, fun, and adventurous information on Sonoran Desert plants and animals.
