San Jose California - “Capital of Silicon Valley”

San Jose is located at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay Area. The city is considered to be the third largest city in California. San Jose is also ranked as the tenth largest city in the United States. According to the 2007census, the estimated population is of 939,899. Due to the city’s interest in local technology the city has been nicknamed the “Capital of Silicon Valley”.

San Jose has a Mediterranean climate. The city is very sunny since it receives about 300 days a year of sunshine. During the summer, temperatures are on average in the high 80’s. During the winter, temperatures remain in the 50’s. Snow occasionally falls in San Jose yet the city is usually not cool enough to maintain the solid enough to hit the ground.

A Tech Museum and Fun Zoo in San Jose, CA

San Jose has been recognized as the “Capitol of Silicon Valley” due to its strong association to technology expansion. It would only make sense that the city would have a technology museum; The Tech Museum of Innovation. The museum plays host to more than 400,000 guests a year. The museum offers several interactive exhibits, educational center, Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater, and a café.

The Happy Hollow Park and Zoo is the second main attraction in the city. The zoo has several animal exhibits and it also provides hands-on experiences with many animals. The zoo also has an Animal Contact Area that features goats, miniature horses, and zebus. The park area is a creative place where little ones from ages 2-10 can explore a fun and safe park. The park also has several events such as creative play areas, children’s rides, Puppet Shows, and birthday areas.

How Eco-Friendly are San Jose Hotels and San Jose CA Lodging?

San Jose has 49 hotels listed in the iStayGreen directory of which 9 are listed as environmentally friendly lodging. Currently 6 hotels have completed the online Environmental Audit and earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating while the other 3 properties are purported to be "Green" but have not yet shared their eco-initiatives with iStayGreen.org.

In San Jose there are 40 properties where the environmentally friendliness is unknown and they have not yet verified their sustainability efforts with iStayGreen.org. In the state of California there is a total of 3817 lodging properties listed in the iStayGreen.org directory of which 461 are represented as eco-friendly. Currently there are 281 lodging properties that have earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating. Included in the properties working toward a more sustainable travel future are San Jose hotels, San Jose resorts, San Jose bed & breakfasts, and San Jose extended stay accommodations.
