Madison is the capitol of the state of Wisconsin. The city is the second largest city in Wisconsin and is located just over an hour west of Milwaukee. Madison is one of the fastest growing cities in Wisconsin. According to the 2000 census, the city has an estimated population of 208,054. Although many may consider the city small, Madison is filled with excellent restaurants, several musical events, and great shopping opportunities.
The city of Madison mostly has a humid continental climate. The city has an average of 187 sunny days per year. During summer, temperatures tend to be in the high 60’s. July is considered the hottest month of the year with average temperatures in the low 80’s to mid 90’s. During winter, temperatures can be well below freezing and there is occasional heavy snowfall.
Madison host several festivals throughout the year but one of its most famous festival is The Great Taste of the Midwest. The festival is the second longest-running craft beer festival in the United States. There are more than 500 different beers offered at the festival. There are more than 105 different breweries and brewpubs that participate in the festival. The festival also has great food, music, and a celebrity brewer dunk tank for charity.
Madison is also known for having America’s largest produce only farmers’ market. The Dane County Farmer’ Market is held every Saturday morning in Capitol Square. There about 150 different vendors who participate every Saturday and Wednesday. You will only find he season’s best vegetables, flowers, and special products at the market.
